So, you have finished building your website, put it on the web, browsed through all the pages just to make sure everything is uploaded correctly, invited your friends to take a look, and after that... your web-statistics sit on zero for days, then weeks... You don't want to see all your hard work wasted, right? That means, the 3/4 of the work is still ahead, and you should, without wasting time - start promoting your website!

Search engines can become the most powerful tool in your hands. If you optimize your website for search engines - click HERE to use our tutorials on this issue - you will be able to receive random visitors from all over the world. Be sure to create correct meta tags (also offered on our website HERE ) and submit your website to all the major search engines, such as Google, MSN, and Yahoo!.

Join Forums, online boards & communities. This could be as well a good tool to promote your website, however, always read forum rules and guidelines first, in order not to end up banned. Include a link to your site in your signature, and in your profile. Be active member, lead a busy social life, and this will eventually promote your website as well.

Banner exchange could be a good idea. You can make a separate page for banners you will be placing on your site, or if you have a business website - place them at the bottom of a page, but be sure the people you swap banners / links with have an active and visited website.

Awards . While to force a person to place a banner and promote your website is not easy at times, if you will issue your own award program, and, just as any awards program, require that the award will be linked back to your site - believe me, people will gladly display your awards! To ensure the award will still be associated with you, you can put a small line with your website's URL on the awards graphic itself. When you design your award, do your best to create a visually pleasing award graphic, so that anyone who will see that award on the winner's website, would want it as well. With regards to awards, you can always aspire for more, and write a harsh criteria, and try to get a rating for your awards program at any prestigious organization such as Award Sites!, USWAG or Web Awards. However, this is a serious commitment, and the award should be earned, and not be given upon application.

Email signature could be useful as well. Add a small graphical signature (let's say a banner that links to your website) or just your name, and URL of your site, which will be clickable and will lead your home page.

Launch newsletters , which will inform the visitors on a monthly basis about news and updates on your website. Be sure to include a several links back to your site, so that the reader will quickly be able to get to your website.

Summary: After you have finished building your website, don't go thinking the work is already behind! It just begins, with joining forums, swapping banners with friends and other websites, that have a similar topic on their site, optimize your site for search engines, try to make as many websites as possible to link to you and lead an active social life posting on board leaving your signature on other sites. Also, offer your visitors to subscribe to your newsletters, and when you will be updating the info, add more than one link to your site, from the email.
